Company Directory & Bios

The principals of the firm are Scott McAllister, President, and Vince Tryer, Vice President. Together, they have fifty years of combined experience in the construction industry. Scott and Vince are both Civil Engineering graduates of Oklahoma State University and North Carolina State University, respectively. Both were vice presidents of an ENR Top 400 General Contracting firm in the country.  Vince was also recognized in the 1997 International Who’s Who of Professionals.

Scott and Vince have held various construction management positions throughout their careers in the industry such as superintendent, project manager, senior project manager, director of operations, vice president and for Scott, president; overseeing warehouse and distribution centers, industrial buildings, retail centers, hotels, medical, pharmaceutical and office building projects. They have completed twenty-two warehouse projects for Wal-Mart, seven projects for Corning Glass Works, and nine projects for Convergys Call Center, among many other projects for repeat and one-time clients.

Their management style brings an aggressive, team-oriented approach with a “get it done and whatever it takes” attitude.  Scott and Vince treat each client with the utmost care and respect in an effort not only to establish a relationship and maintain their reputation, but also to earn repeat business from their clients.

The company maintains relationships with many specialized subcontractors having expertise in a variety of project types, who travel with HELM Builders on a national scale when local subcontractors are unable to meet the size, scope, or financial requirements of a project.  Scott and Vince believe that being actively involved in the direct day-to-day operations of the company makes this possible. Dedication, customer relations and successful, on-time contract completions are what have fostered the core of this company.

Bios

Scott O. McAllister - President, Principal

 

Scott McAllister brings over 25 years of Construction Management experience to the partnership. Upon receiving his degree in Civil Engineering Technology and Construction Management, he immediately became involved in the construction industry. Scott's commitment and dedication, strong customer relationships and positive track record of success have made him a valuable asset to the construction industry. Scott holds a General Contractor’s license in the following states; North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi and Virginia.

 

Vince S. Tryer - Vice President, Principal

 

Vince S. Tryer adds over 25 years of experience as a professional in the construction industry. To complete projects on time, Vince uses aggressive cost control, dedication, and strong customer relations. Furthermore his teamwork attitude brings the owner, design and construction teams together to allow a smooth and successful project. In addition to holding a General Contractor's license for the state of Virginia, Vince is certified in areas such as Hospital Design and Construction, Mold Management, EPA approved Storm Water Professional and AGC Medical Facilities Design and Construction.

   
Todd Bednar - Director of Preconstruction Services
 

Todd Bednar has 30 years of experience in the construction industry providing cost estimating services on a number of high profile projects throughout the United States. These projects include multi story office towers, hotels, retail facilities and industrial construction projects. He is responsible for all pre-construction services for Helm Builders LLC including conceptual / design development, complete construction cost estimating, value analysis and value engineering. Todd holds an undergraduate degree from Kansas State College in Construction Sciences.

   
Mike Grissom - Controller
 

Mike Grissom has over 20 years of construction experience, primarily in the residential and commercial sectors. He has worked both as a Superintendant and Project Manager on several large scale commercial projects. Recently, he has worked in public accounting as an auditor and tax accountant for firms including a large publicly held corporation. He holds a BS in Economics and an MS in Accounting from UNC-Wilmington.

   
Chris Bell - Project Manager
 

Chris Bell has over 15 years of warehouse, distribution center, hospitality, industrial, retail, and office construction experience. He simultaneously maintains the highest standards of quality and safety as it pertains to maintaining an orderly and safe site while being responsible for the weekly meeting with staff, subcontractor and owners. His supervision is continued to the final completion of the project, including coordination and scheduling of manpower, materials inventory, and equipment. Chris holds an undergraduate degree from NC-State in Wood Science Technology.

   
Jiten Patel - Project Manager
 

Jiten Patel has more than 10 years of diverse program and project management experience including construction evaluation, administration, estimating and budgeting. His leadership is recognized as creative and effective and his detailed, analytical management approach is owner focused and team oriented. Jiten’s professional career has been regional in scope with responsibility for many large-scale projects including hotels, hospitals and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in the southeastern United States. He has guided the successful development and implementation of our client’s programs on projects both large and small. Jiten holds undergraduate and graduate engineering degrees from NC State University.

   
Jason Powell - Project Manager
 

Jason Powell has nearly 20 years experience in construction related fields including estimating, purchasing, scheduling and project management. He has worked on an array of projects including industrial, hospitality, retail and sporting venues. His project responsibilities include contract review, negotiations with subcontractors/vendors, conducting pre-construction and weekly project meetings, reviewing and tracking progress of trades, and competent review of safety practices. Furthermore he creates and updates project schedules while maintaining verbal and written communication with owners’ representatives and subcontractors. Jason attended The Ohio State University majoring in Finance.

   
Rick Randall - Project Manager / Superintendent
 

Rick Randall brings over 19 years of construction related experience to Helm Builders. His involvement in contract review, subcontractor selection, purchasing, scheduling, project management and safety ensures the project will be completed to the standards Helm Builders is known for. He has managed large and small scale projects including, industrial, hospitality, retail and educational facilities. Rick is OSHA certified and attended Schoolcraft College.
